â–¼ What is Kubla Cubed and who is it for?

Kubla Cubed is earthworks estimating and quantity takeoff software used by engineers, surveyors, estimators, and construction professionals around the world.

As Rich explains:

“It’s Earthworks estimating and quantity takeoff… used by people around the world, by engineers, surveyors, estimators.”

One of the software’s main goals is to be easy to use:

“We’re just trying to keep it nice and simple, easy to use, and without having to introduce lots of CAD terminology… using our tool, you don’t need to have [a CAD background].”

â–¼ What are the main improvements in Kubla Cubed 2026?

The primary focus of Kubla Cubed 2026 is improving workflow and reducing manual workarounds.

Rich explains:

“The focus of 2026 is to improve the workflow.”

The new version introduces direct support for additional file formats, including LAS, LAZ, E57 and enhanced LandXML support, making it much easier to import survey data without relying on external conversion tools.

â–¼ What new features will have the biggest impact?

Different users will benefit from different features, but some of the biggest improvements include:

  • Direct import of LAS, LAZ and E57 point cloud files
  • Expanded measurement tools
  • The new Simplification Tool
  • The new Drape Tool
  • A new Analysis Mode

Rich says users importing point cloud data will particularly benefit because:

“You just say, ‘I want this,’ and it imports it… ‘Wow, that’s straight in.'”

â–¼ What feature is Rich most excited about in Kubla Cubed 2026?

Rich highlighted several favourite features, particularly the Simplification Tool, Drape Tool, and Google Earth Export.

Speaking about Google Earth Export, he says:

“Being able to actually see the construction sites in situ… and show this to your customers… I think it’s going to be a really cool addition for visualisations.”

He also praised the new Simplification Tool because users can now simplify imported terrain after importing, rather than needing to delete and re-import data.

â–¼ How much of Kubla Cubed 2026 was influenced by customer feedback?

A large proportion of the new release came directly from customer suggestions.

As Rich explains:

“The majority of it is from customers.”

Ideas are collected from forums, emails, trade shows and conversations with customers, and every suggestion is recorded for future consideration.

Features such as the Drape Tool, Simplification Tool, and Google Earth export all originated from user feedback.
