Obtaining a Breakdown of different Paving Strata

Rarely is paving made up of a single material. For instance a tiled area will maybe have layers of sand and gravel underneath for stability. A road would have many more layers. If you have an overall paving volume calculated it is quite easy to break this down into different layers using ratios or percentages. For instance if paving is made up of 20% tile, 20% sand and 60% gravel it is not too break down an overall paving volume into different materials in a spreadsheet. However you can model this also in Kubla Cubed. To do so you need to create a different phases for each layer and use reduce elements with a height set just to the thickness of the strata. This will have the benefit of each material in paving having a separate volume in the reports and spreadsheets. Using this method it is best to have one phase per material and name the phase after the material. For many projects this would be considered overkill considering how easy it is to complete in a spreadsheet, however it is possible to do this if needed.
